Working Remote @ sofatutor
What is it like to work 100% remotely at sofatutor? Get some insights from our Talent Acquisition Manager, Juliane:
Hello, I am Juliane and part of the People & Culture Team at sofatutor. While the sofatutor office is in Berlin, I live in Dresden. How does that work? I guess remote work is not a foreign word or concept anymore. Since the pandemic started, many office workers needed to work remotely, at least for some months. Some of them started to enjoy that, and some did not. I belong to the people that like(d) working from home, and when searching for my current job, I knew I was not going to move away from Dresden.
Luckily, working 100 % remote is not a problem at sofatutor. When I started in February, I got all my work equipment, like a Laptop and monitor, sent home so I could start working right away. The onboarding sessions were all held online, and everyone could participate from everywhere.
But doesn’t it feel weird never meeting your colleagues? Firstly, I see them several times a week in team meetings or at other (online) events. Plus, having interviews with new people from nearly everywhere does not require me to work from Berlin. Secondly, remote work at sofatutor does not mean I am bound to work from home. For team events and strategy meetings, the whole team gets invited to meet at the office in Berlin-Friedrichshain and enjoy some quality time together. That is what I did some weeks ago.
On April 25th, I sat on the train to Berlin at 7 am (!), trying to be available for the first meeting at 9:15 am in Berlin. Visiting the office for the first time was very exciting. I got warmly welcomed by some colleagues, and my team lead Carina gave me an office tour, showing me around all the places and letting me know where I may find whom. I enjoyed working from the office for some days, team activities, and joint working sessions with my colleagues. Especially when remote colleagues stay in the office, the team plans joint on-site (working) sessions. After an intense week of meeting people and enjoying the perks of being at the office, I came back home tired but happy. I am lucky that I can work remotely at sofatutor from my hometown. Nevertheless, it is good to know my team personally, and I look forward to being back at the office soon!
